This is the sixth issue, and this newsletter's audience is still growing pretty nicely! Thank you all for your interest and for spreading the word, particularly about the last issue - I had never had so many people email me! Happy to keep contributing to the field and helping people discover new things about text adventures 😃
My news
Still working on the translation of Tristam Island into French... The text is being proofread by some friends, and I still need to optimize a couple of things so it fits in the z3 format. After that, more work on French PunyInform and the interpreters - it's definitely taking a bit more time than I thought! However, there's a few French users who are looking forward to being able to use these tools, too!

And I don't have much else to report this month, I'm afraid! After months of search, I have found full-time employment, which I'm very happy about! It did, however, take a lot of time, particularly this month, so I had to put some things on the backburner. I hope to keep making progress on my various projects, and will let you know all about it!

Still quite a lot of activity and game jams this month to report on!
  • The game jam for the Text Adventure Literacy Project has ended! Congratulations to all the participants, and well done to Tristen Grizel for taking the 1st and 3rd place, to Dee Cook (2nd place) and to Ricardo Oyon Rodriguez, who took 4th place in the English competition and 1st place in the Spanish one!
  • Puny Jam #1, the game jam for the PunyInform library for Inform 6 (which footprint is small enough that games can run on retro systems) has closed submissions. You now have one more week to play and vote for the entries! Oh, and join the Discord server if you want to discover this system!
  • Michael Cox also released this month an atmospheric text adventure for the C64, using PunyInform and Ozmoo. Ghost Mountain can be downloaded here.
  • Davide Bucci's latest game, Silk Dust, is also almost done; he very recently posted a document on his website explaining the historical background of his story, set in early 20th-century Italy. A very nice read!
  • Stefan Vogt just sent his Hibernated 1: Director's Cut to a few select testers, including yours truly. Can't wait to try it! 😀
  • Finally, I forgot to talk about it when it came out a few months ago, but pdxiv wrote a new compiler for the ScottKit format, which allows you to write games in the Scott Adams format. This new compiler, written in Perl, incorporates several new features, including the ability to fit more data in the game, which is always nice! You can see the thread on intfiction.org, and the Github repository.
This month's article
This month, you're getting an exclusive article - exclusive to English, that is 😁 I published an article in the latest CAAD, from last month, on the topic of text adventures in French (it even made the front page of the magazine!). Juanjo Muñoz, the editor-in-chief of this fine publication, had translated in into Spanish for the magazine (my Spanish isn't that great!), and he graciously allowed me to publish the English version of the article here! A big thank you to him, and long live CAAD!

So go ahead and read more about French text adventures - starting from the Mystery House translation, which was the article in Issue #1, and going all the way to recent times!
